I’m a bit worried about public opinion and the recent healthcare bill. I’ll also give Obama credit for being a really smart dude (does not translate to honorable).
Even though I try not to be partisan, I think the democratic party would have been crippled if healthcare did not pass, and despite what others might believe, I don’t think they will “lose greatly” in November now.
The gamble Obama took was that once passed, the stupid american people would focus on the perks and forget the substance and methods. While I don’t believe people are stupid, I do believe we are preoccupied, and I think the gamble will pay off.
One of the biggest argument I’ve heard over the issue is:
Rep: We all want healthcare but this isn’t how to do it and we need a plan that will taste a bit better than chocolate covered (perks) deer crap (substance & methods).
Dem: If you are so hot for reform why didn’t you do anything during the previous 8 years.
I am a newly converted “non- demorcrat” and the answer to the above is simple. First, there is no excuse for the methods used to pass this bill, or the other “signed but not read” legislation of this administration. Call me harsh, but I expect better. I also vote for legislators to speak for me–not think for me. I believe this type of government is non-constitutional, and in so much–TREASONOUS.
Second, there were efforts over the past 8 years to improve healthcare–I know because I was part of it. I find republicans willing to throw Bush under the bus over this issue worthy of unseating.
The problem comes down to the biggest lobby in the country, an organization that operates quietly from the back seat but to which many legislators on both sides of the aisle belong.
I’m not going to mention this organization because those who are interested in politics/government already know who I’m talking about—and if you don’t you should not be reading this blog; turn on the Disney Channel instead.
